What is #HATEISAVIRUS?

Since the start of this year, UPRISERS have been working closely with #HATEISAVIRUS. What started as a local initiate became a global movement when now CEO and Co-Founder of Hate Is A Virus, Tammy Cho (Founder of BetterBrave) and CFO and Co-Founder, Bryan Pham (Founder of Asian Hustle Network) came on board. In fact, the name HATEISAVIRUS was inspired in the living of our founder, Michelle K. Hanabusa. Kari Okubo, our digital marketing director; Saul Lopez, our art director and content creator; and Michelle K. Hanabusa sat in her living room trying to make sense of everything going on and brainstormed ways to help our local community. We recognize parallel to the increase in hate and racism, there demands a sizable force to counter those voices. We’re here to stand together and let our voices resonate louder.

#HATEISAVIRUS is an instrumental movement to counter racism and xenophobia against Asians fueled from the rhetoric generated by COVID-19. They gathered the community together for the first Raise A Million virtual rally and event in May because of the pressing urgency to help Asian American owned restaurants that were hit twice as harder than non-Asian businesses. Through our incredible partnerships and your committed participation, we raised $17k in funds to help local businesses. To think, that is just the beginning.
