WHAT IS YOUR IMMIGRATION STORY?
My great-grandfather is originally from China and at some point, he moved over to Vietnam, met my great-grandmother, they gave birth to my grandmother along with her siblings. And from there, that's when she met my grandfather. And again, they're from Vietnam, born and raised. They had my mom and after several years they moved out to America. So, I am a first-born generation.
WHAT DOES YOUR CURRENT JOURNEY LOOK LIKE?
My grandparents were restaurant owners for several years. After they did that for a while they continued to work in the restaurant industry and as of now my grandfather is retired and my grandma's still working in restaurants. My mother was a nail tech for several years and now she's selling insurance.
REFLECTIONS
What are your hopes for the future?
My future hope for my family is just that the fruits of their labors will be able to retire my mom. And as for me, just enjoy my life. I think that my grandparents and my mom sacrificed so much to come over here. Even the sacrifices are still happening to this day. They had to give up a lot of their dreams just to make my existence to begin with and even my dreams become a reality as well. So, as far as where I see myself in the future, it's just doing what my family wasn't able to do, which is just traveling, living a better life, and pursuing my passions, even if it's not the traditional or safe career path like becoming a lawyer or doctor or whatever.
